Appendix

1)      Goal

a)      To accumulate the most points during the Pargon season and be declared Lord Pargon (LP).

2)      League Year

a)      The league year starts when LP wakes up on the morning following Pargon Night.

3)      Bye Week Draft

a)      All five Pargon League players will meet during the middle of the preseason to draft six teams each for their bye week picks. This will be a snake-order draft, with the draft order being determined by drawing playing cards during the winter meetings (Ace gets first pick, Two gets second pick, Three gets third pick…).

b)      Trading of Bye Week draft picks is allowed. It is not necessary that each player end up with 6 teams as long as 30 total teams are drafted (trades do not need to be 1-for-1).

c)      Trading of Bye Week drafted teams is allowed, up until the first snap of the regular season. (trades do not need to be 1-for-1).

d)      2021 Draft Order: Pat, Paul, Jim, Brian, Jimmy

4)      Point System

a)      Traditional Pargon Pick

i)       1 point

ii)      Opponents compare confidence picks against each other, identify the differences and mutually decide on one game as their pick. Whichever player’s team wins, that player is awarded the point.

iii)    In the event the Traditional Pargon pick game ends in a tie, the matchup will change to a True Pargon pick and follow True Pargon rules.

iv)     By-Law: If the opponents’ only differences are for games that include banned teams, the matchup becomes a True Pargon pick. (Rule inactive as of 8/7/2018; rule reenacted as of 7/15/2021).

v)      If a pick hasn’t been made and a game has already been played, and the players have future differences to choose from, that missed game cannot be chosen as the Traditional Pargon Pick.

vi)     In the event two players only have one difference, and the difference is not a banned team, that matchup will be automatically determined to be the traditional Pargon pick (regardless of whether game has already been played).

vii)   By-Law: Players can at any point switch their head-to-head matchup to a True Pargon instead of the Traditional Pargon pick.

b)      True Pargon Pick

i)       1 point

ii)      In the event opponents have the exact same confidence teams picked, the players enter into a True Pargon pick. The point will be awarded to the player with the most Zammuto points at the end of the week.

iii)    In the event a True Pargon pick ends in a tie, the player who suffered the biggest single game point loss would lose and the opponent is awarded the point. If the players tie for the biggest single game point loss, neither player will be awarded a point.

c)      Pargon Mirror

i)       1 point

ii)      If both players have the exact same confidence teams picked and exact same confidence points assigned to each game, players will enter into a Pargon Mirror scenario

iii)    Players draft from a pool of the teams they picked to win, drafting as many as possible while ensuring each player has the same number of teams. RPS determines who picks first, no snake order. Player with more winning teams is awarded the point

iv)     If players are still in a tie after this, neither player is awarded a point.

d)      Dark Pargon

i)       1 point

ii)      If both players have opposite confidence picks on every single game that week, players will enter into a Dark Pargon scenario. The point will be awarded to the player with the most Zammuto points at the end of the week.

iii)    In the event a Dark Pargon pick ends in a tie, the player who suffered the biggest single game point loss would lose and the opponent is awarded the point. If the players tie for the biggest single game point loss, neither player will be awarded a point.

e)      Bye Week 0.0 (currently inactive)

i)       The entire league officially takes a week off

ii)      No Pargon, Zammuto, 3-Rules, Lucky Hits, Unicorn Points or any other Pargon/Zammuto related activity is allowed during this week

f)       Bye Week 1.0

i)       1 point

ii)      When a player is on their bye, the player will pick two of their drafted teams to win. If both teams win, the player is awarded the point.

g)      Bye Week 2.0 (currently inactive)

i)       1 point each pair, up to 3 points max

ii)      When a player is in a bye week 2.0, the player takes their bye week teams and makes three pairings with their teams. If both the teams in a pair win their game that week, the player gets a point.

h)      Bye Week 3.0 (currently inactive)

i)       Up to 8 Points

ii)      When a player is on a bye week 3.0, the player gets one point each for each win from any of their bye week teams.

i)       Bye Week 4.0

i)       When bye week 4.0 occurs, count up the wins for each player’s bye week teams

ii)      Scoring: 1st place gets 3 points, 2nd place gets 2 points, 3rd place gets 1 point, 4th place gets 1 point, 5th place gets 0 points. Ties result in both players getting that ranking’s points

iii)    Any player that gets 5 or more team wins gets a bonus point

j)       Double Bye Week 4.0

i)       Same concept as Bye Week 4.0 above, except it stretches over two weeks

ii)      Count up total wins for each player’s bye week teams over the course of two weeks

iii)    Scoring: 1st place gets 3 points, 2nd place gets 2 points, 3rd place gets 1 point, 4th place gets 1 point, 5th place gets 0 points. Ties result in both players getting that ranking’s points

iv)     Any player that gets 10 or more team wins gets a bonus point

k)      Three Rule Pick

i)       1 point

ii)      If a player is 3 or more points behind the leader in the current Pargon standings, that player can submit a Three Rule pick for the following week. Player will choose any three teams to win that week (excluding the banned teams). If all three teams win, player is awarded the point

iii)    Each player is allowed a maximum of (3) Three Rule picks for an entire season

l)       Perfect Confidence Picks; aka the Unicorn Point “cause it’s so rare”

i)       In the event a player gets perfect confidence points for the week, that player is awarded one bonus Pargon point

m)    “Lucky Hit” wager

i)       A player may wager one Pargon point by betting on a team that is a 6.5 point or more underdog that week. If the team the player bets on wins the game, the player wins a Pargon point. If the team the player bets on loses the game, the player loses a Pargon point. If the team the player bets on has their game end in a tie, no Pargon point is won or lost.

(1)    A player must have a Pargon point to be able to wager a Pargon point. If a player does not have a Pargon point available, they cannot make a Lucky Hit bet.

ii)      Each player may use up to two Lucky Hit during the course of the season. If the team the player bets on has their game end in a tie, the player would still lose that Lucky Hit opportunity.

(1)    If a player wins both of their lucky hits during a season, they will be awarded a third lucky hit opportunity to use if they so choose

iii)    Banned teams can be picked as the team to place a Lucky Hit bet on. This is due to the fact that the banned teams have a high chance of being eligible for this type of wager.

iv)     Yahoo Sports website will be the official source of the betting lines

v)      When submitting the Lucky Hit bet, the player must email or text the rest of the Pargon league with their pick and a screen shot of the spread for that game. The screen shot must have a time stamp and the pick must be submitted within two hours of the screen shot. (this will prevent a player from taking a screen shot on Wednesday when a team is a 6.5 point underdog, but then waiting to submit that pick and screen shot until Sunday, when the line has moved down to say 5 point underdog).

(1)    If a player does submit a Lucky Hit via email or text, any other player in the league may request that the Lucky Hit bet also be communicated via the other form of communication (i.e. if player submits Lucky Hit over email, another player could request that the original player also communicates the Lucky Hit over text, and vice versa)

vi)     Once a player makes a Lucky Hit bet on a team, no other players can make a Lucky Hit bet on that same team that week. In the event multiple players submit a Lucky Hit bet on the same team in the same week, the player who submitted the pick via email with the earliest time stamp will be accepted. The other players’ Lucky Hit bet will be voided.

vii)   As long as the pick is made in accordance to the rules above, the Lucky Hit bet is locked in, regardless of how the betting line moves after that point in time.

5)      Submitting and Making Picks

a)      For Zammuto point purposes, all confidence picks must be submitted to Brian via email or in Google Drive prior to the start of the first game of the week.

i)       Any picks not sent to Brian by this deadline will receive 0 Zammuto points for that week.

b)      For Pargon point purposes, all confidence picks must be submitted to your opponent no later than 6 hours prior to the first game of that weekend.

i)       If this deadline is missed, your opponent can pick the matchup that week, regardless of your pick for that matchup. You can still have the opportunity to win your point for that week.

ii)      First player to turn in picks to opponent, that opponent is responsible to identify differences

c)      Opponents making Traditional Pargon picks must decide a game as their Traditional Pargon pick and notify the rest of the league by the earlier of either 30 minutes prior to start of the game picked or 11:30 am Sunday of that week.

i)       Picks must be submitted to the rest of the league via an encrypted email, where a long series of text (i.e. Wikipedia article) precedes the picks in the email message

ii)      In the event a player is unable to get a response from his attempts at contacting his opponent, that player will notify LP of the situation. If LP determines that a player is negligent in working with his opponent to make a pick, LP will intervene to try to contact the negligent player. If that fails, the player who was trying to contact his opponent will make the pick of any game he chooses from their differences. In the event there are no differences, it will automatically be a True Pargon Pick.

d)      Bye Week 1.0, Bye Week 2.0 and Three Rule picks deadlines:

i)       All teams submitted 30 minutes before start of earliest game picked

ii)      The official source of start times will be taken as scheduled from www.yahoo.com

iii)    If picks are not submitted on time, the pick is voided.

(1)    If a pick is voided, the player is permitted to pick new teams if they so choose, as long as the submission deadline can be met.

(2)    In the event of a voided 3-rule pick, if the player does not make new picks for that weekend, they would retain that 3-rule opportunity to use at a future date.

6)      Regular Season Schedule

a)      Breakdown of schedule
Weeks 1-3: Traditional Pargon Pick (vs 1 opponent) with odd man out on Bye Week 1.0
Week 4-5: Double Bye Week 4.0
Weeks 5-17: Traditional Pargon Pick (vs 1 opponent) with odd man out on Bye Week 1.0
Week 18: Mad Dash

b)      Scheduling

i)       Brian has a template that determines the schedule each season (week 1: 1 vs 2; 3 vs 4…)

ii)      The draft order as determined by the drawing of playing cards above will also correspond to the schedule order for each player. Meaning the player with the first pick in the draft will also be #1 in the schedule template for the season, and so forth.

c)      Mad Dash weeks

i)       Each player will make a traditional Pargon Pick against each of the other four opponents with a chance to earn up to four points.

ii)      An attempt will be made to have a group viewing during the mad dash weeks.

d)      In the event of a cancelled or shortened NFL season, do not panic, take a moment to gather yourself, and refer to Appendix A

7)      Lord Pargon & Pargon Cup

a)      At the end of the regular season, the Pargon points are added up and the player with the most points shall be known as Lord Pargon elect until the trophy presentation.

b)      Pargon Playoffs

i)       In the event that more than one player is tied at the top of the Pargon standings after the regular season, those players will enter into a Pargon Playoff draft

ii)      If two players in Pargon Playoffs, draft order is determined by RPS. If three or more players in Pargon Playoffs, draft order determined by pulling names out of a hat. All drafts will be done using a snake order draft. All 14 playoff teams are drafted, or as many as possible while ensuring all opponents have an equal number of teams

iii)    Each time one of your drafted teams get a win, you get points
Wild Card Round = 1 point
Divisional Round = 2 points
Championship Round = 2 points
Super Bowl = 2 points

iv)     Player with most points at end of playoffs is crowned Lord Pargon. In the event of a tie after the playoffs, Super Bowl winner will be used to determine Lord Pargon.

(1)    If neither of the players tied for the league at end of Pargon Playoffs owns the super bowl winner, then tiebreaker determined by Head-2-Head record between the two opponents, not including Mad Dash week matchups

c)      Ceremony

i)       After the end of the Pargon season, the new Lord Pargon will be treated to an evening of his choice by the losers (humble servants). Evening includes dinner and whatever else Lord Pargon wants to do. (If gambling, $5 from each humble servant will be used towards LP’s wagering).

ii)      LP is responsible for coordinating the date for the ceremony to take place.

iii)    Previous year's LP is responsible for getting the trophy engraved with the new LP’s name and year.

(1)    In the event of a repeat LP, then the cost of the trophy engraving will be divided amongst the humble servants as a part of the celebration night costs.

iv)     The ceremonial drinking must take place. If there is a new LP, the Pargon Cup must change hands

v)      The ceremonial picture must also be taken of LP drinking or fake drinking from the cup and the picture frame passed to the new LP

d)      Mandatory Group Picture

i)       Mandatory Group Picture for the evening of the ceremony is encouraged but not mandatory.

8)      Zammuto Champion & Table

a)      The total Zammuto points leader for the regular season will be awarded the Zammuto Points Table, to be bestowed at the same time as the Pargon Cup ceremony.

b)      Banned teams’ wins do count for Zammuto Points

c)      Zammuto tiebreakers will be determined in the sequential order below, starting at the first option and continuing (if needed) until a winner is decided. Players eliminated in any given tiebreaker round cannot continue to successive rounds:

i)       Most head-to-head wins (amongst only players tied at top of Zammuto standings)

ii)      Highest single week point total

iii)    Most weeks spent as leader in Zammuto standings

iv)     RPS

d)      This historic refinished table was made by the very capable hands of the late Pete Zammuto, brother to Jim’s mom. (see story on website)

9)      Winter Meetings

a)      Meetings must be held prior to June 31st (yes, this does say June 31st)

b)      The winter meetings will have a “Host” role and a “Scribe” role

c)      The person who finishes 2nd last in the Pargon standings will choose if they will be the Host or the Scribe. The person who finished in last place in the Pargon standings will play the remaining role.

d)      The Host of the Winter Meetings will have the following responsibilities:

i)       Coordinate a date and time that works for everyone

ii)      Provide frozen pizzas and beer for other participants

e)      The Scribe will have the following responsibilities:

i)       Official note taker of the meetings, documenting all rule changes voted upon

ii)      Send out follow up email to all participants with all voted-in rule changes within one week of the Winter Meetings

f)       Last Place Tiebreaker:

i)       Tied players go to head to head record during regular season

ii)      If still tied, it goes to RPS (best of 3)

10)  Tony Bruno Edge award

a)      Each season, a player will be designated to give out the Tony Bruno Edge award. The frequency of this award and Tony Bruno picture (actual image of him) is up to the determination of the designated person for that season (as there was no specified timeframe written in the rules previously).

b)      This honor is not worth anything except bragging rights.

c)      2021 – Paul

2022 – Jim

2023 – Pat

2024 – Jimmy

2025 – Brian

11)  Kangaroo Court

a)      Anyone can call for Kangaroo Court to propose alterations of the rules, dispute league matters or settle arguments that cannot be resolved.

b)      Pargon League members not directly involved in the issue will hear testimony and will vote on a verdict for the matter at hand, only majority vote wins.

c)      All attempts will be made to hold voting either in person, video chat or via a phone conference. In the event all players are not able to get together in person or find a common time to hold a phone conference, voting can be done over a group email.

12)  Website

a)      Until further notice, Brian will be the official keeper of the website. Pat will serve as backup website editor.

b)      All documents will be held in the shared Google Drive for easy access.

c)      All costs will be split up evenly amongst PM, PH, JJ, JH and will be paid in full at the Winter Meetings (BH is exempt from paying the costs due to the work he puts in maintaining the website)

Blank Rule (Rule 13)

Due to the unlucky nature of the number “13”, the 13th rule in the official Pargon rulebook would be known as the Blank Rule as this is an unlucky number.

14)  Adding & Removing League Members

a)      Adding a Member

i)       New members require having an existing member as their “sponsor”

ii)      Sponsor will submit an application via email to rest of league between the Pargon Cup celebration and the Winter meetings stating the name of the potential new member and any relevant information

iii)    Vote will be the 1st agenda item @ the Winter Meetings

iv)               75% approval needed for adding a new member, individual vote results will be anonymous

b)      Reinstating a Member

i)       Follows the same rules as Adding a Member

c)      Removing a Member

i)       The group agreed that “it will work itself out naturally”

d)      Retirement

i)       “If you start the season, you are GOING to finish it”

ii)      If a member decides to retire, it is asked that the member finishes out the season in good faith

iii)    Member should submit notification to the rest of the league sometime between the Pargon Cup celebration and the Winter Meetings

iv)     If a member does retire during the season (death, sick, lazy….)

(1)    Any opponent playing that retired member for the rest of the season will follow rule 5.c.ii for submitting picks that week

15)  Trash Talking

a)      In the Pargon rulebook, the “Trash Talking” rule shall always be listed as the final rule, as to end on a high note.

b)      All trash-talking, name-calling, power-abusing, and general angst is strictly encouraged.

Appendix A – Cancelled or Shortened NFL season

A1)  Cancelled NFL Season (aka “Dems the Rules”)

a)      If the NFL season is cancelled and no winner is declared, then there will be no Lord Pargon declared and no Zammuto champion. The current champions will be allowed to keep their respective trophies until 11:59pm of that season’s scheduled super bowl date.

b)      LP & Zammuto Wake: After the scheduled super bowl date, the trophies will be boxed up and not looked upon again until such time that a new Lord Pargon and/or Zammuto points champion is declared. It will be up to the current trophy holder(s) to organize a gathering with all players to mourn the loss the trophies.

c)      The new Pargon season would start at 12:00am CDT, on the morning following LP & Zammuto wake.

d)      By Law: At the time the season is cancelled, if a player has mathematically clinched victory in either the Pargon standings or the Zammuto standings, that person will be awarded the respective trophy and the ceremony will take place as specified in rule 7.

A2)  Shortened NFL Season

a)      If the NFL season gets shortened for any reason, any remaining NFL weeks in the shortened season will continue to follow where the Pargon season left off; with the exception that the last regular season week will always be a Mad Dash week

i)       Example 1: After week 5, the NFL postpones the season. The NFL then decides to resume regular season with four more weeks and then move into playoffs. These four regular season weeks would follow the original Pargon schedule for weeks 6, 7, 8 and then a Mad Dash week

ii)      Example 2: After week 5, the NFL postpones the season. The NFL then decides to resume regular season with one more week and then move into playoffs. This one regular season week would be a Mad Dash week

iii)    Example 3: After week 5, the NFL postpones the season. The NFL then decides to resume the season with no additional regular season games and go right into the playoffs. There would be no additional Pargon weeks and no Mad Dash in this case.

b)      The leader in Pargon points standings and Zammuto points at the end of the shortened season will be crowned Lord Pargon and the Zammuto champion. Any ties would be broken by normal tiebreaker rules.
